Action Alert: Sign the petition to protect immigrants
Trump's attacks on immigrants are escalating. The administration announced this week that it will end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for over 200,000 recipients from El Salvador in 2019.
TPS is granted to immigrants when deporting people is too dangerous because of conditions in their home countries-war, natural disasters, or other extreme circumstances-or their governments lack the ability to absorb those who'd be deported. Created in the 90s under George H.W. Bush, Republicans previously supported the life-saving TPS program.
Since 2001, Republican and Democratic administrations have contended that El Salvador's conditions have not improved enough after devastating earthquakes to safely and humanely return over 200,000 people.
