COLORADO ELECTED OFFICIALS, COMMUNITY LEADERS AND ORGANIZATIONS TO HOLD PRESS CONFERENCE REJECTING THE BIGOTRY AND XENOPHOBIA OF HB17-1134

Denver, CO. - Colorado is facing one of the most anti-immigrant bills of the past decade. HB17-1134, introduced by Representative Dave Williams from Colorado Springs, seeks to claw back some of the most important victories of the immigrant rights movement.

Specifically, Representative Williams seeks to:

• Bring back the SB-90 Show Me Your Papers Law, forcing local law-enforcement agents to investigate immigration status in routine policing operations.

• Punish elected officials with a two year jail sentence, including sheriffs, who do not cooperate with federal immigration enforcement.

• Allow victims of crimes committed by non-citizens in sanctuary jurisdictions to sue elected officials for damages and compensation.

A press conference will be held in the Capitol’s West Foyer (at the foot of the main steps on the first floor) at 2:00 pm to show Rep. David Williams that Colorado will not stand for this bigotry and xenophobia that damages our values as Coloradans and residents of this community. HB-1134 will be heard in the House State Affairs Committee following the press conference on Wednesday, February 22nd. This will be in the Legislative Service Building (200 E 14th Ave, Denver) in Room A.

LOS FUNCIONARIOS ELEGIDOS DE COLORADO, LÍDERES COMUNITARIOS Y ORGANIZACIONES LOCALES HARAN UNA CONFERENCIA DE PRENSA QUE NIEGA LA BIGOTERÍA Y LA XENOFOBIA DE HB17-1134

Colorado se enfrenta a uno de los proyectos más anti-inmigrantes de la década pasada. HB17-1134, presentado por el representante Dave Williams de Colorado Springs, busca recuperar algunas de las victorias más importantes del movimiento por los derechos de los inmigrantes.

Específicamente, el Representante Williams busca:

• Traer de regreso la ley SB-90 “Enséñame Tus Papeles”, obligando a los agentes locales de ley a investigar el estatus migratorio en las operaciones policiales de rutina.

• Castigar a los funcionarios electos con una condena de dos años de prisión, incluyendo a los sheriffs, que no cooperan con la aplicación federal de inmigración.
