A Gift of Peace

Dear Peacekeeper,

The time for talking is over. In a country whose military budget is larger than the rest of the world’s combined; that has waged an illegal war in which almost half the casualties are children; and where every household in the nation contributes $285* a year to the largest military contractor on earth, the time for talking is over.

It is time to act!

We live in critical times - we are in multiple wars with no end in sight, the planet is warming at an alarming rate, food safety is continually under attack ; food insecurity is on the rise, and our air and water are being poisoned. Despite it all, RMPJC has faced, and will continue to face, this challenge with dedication and vigor. In the past year alone we have:

  • Sponsored over 50 educational events with speakers such as Medea Benjamin, Colonel Ann Wright (US Army Ret.), Samia Halaby, Anna Balzar, and Steven Salaita, many of which were free and open to the public.
  • Published over 50 editorials in local papers.
  • Organized numerous rallies to call for an end to the wars in Iraq, and Afghanistan, and for an end to the occupation in Palestine and all the violence in the Middle East .
  • Educated well over 200 people in citizen activism by offering 20 non-violence and citizen activism trainings, free of charge.
  • Coordinated many visits and calls to public officials, that included over 300 people of ages ranging from 8 to 80.
  • Sponsored over 15 community collectives including those working on clean air issues, alternatives to pesticides, food safety issues, and counter-recruitment.

Furthermore, in 2009, the Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center will:

  • Continue to expand our website, with a focus on providing information that cannot be found in the mainstream press.
  • Demand that our Congressional bodies bring ALL the troops home now!
  • Continue to expand the focus of our work to include regional issues, including food security, clean water and local contamination in the Metro Denver area; engaging our community in working for immigrant rights; collaborating with many social justice groups groups to bring an end to oppression and racism in our community.
  • House the Bias-Incident Hotline, where victims and witnesses of bias-motivated incidents will be offered support and advocacy. The Hotline will also act as a reporting system that collects data on such incidents.
  • Continue to educate and motivate thousands of people in our community with our weekly action alerts.

We know that time and money are precious – and scarce - and there are so many important causes; yet we also know that this is a critical time and we must do everything that we can to fund peace & justice! The Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center is doing this important work every day of the year and we need your help. Our job is vast and our victories small but we are not giving up. We can not give up. The time for talking is over.

It is time to act!
